Dave Poulin - Sound

Dave “Sound Guru” Poulin is the (electrical) power behind the throne. Without him, our audience would never hear what a true Big Band is supposed to sound like. He is unstoppable, unflappable, and could probably, in a pinch, rig a working sound system out of two tin cans and a leather belt. The Big Band is the new voice of swing and Dave is its vocal chords.

1. If you were not a sound man what would you be?

An unsound man.

2. If you could have a dinner party with any four figures from history whom would you invite?

Thomas Edison (to thank him), Alexander Graham Bell (same reason), Pierre Trudeau (to ask him "What were you thinking?), and Bettie Paige (to liven things up).

3. If you could live during any time period at all what would it be?

When I was a kid I wanted to live in the "olden days". Now the future looks like it might be fun.

4. If you could have one movie prop for your very own what would you choose?

The DeLorean from Back To The Future. No, no. The Aston Martin from Casino Royale.

5. Favourite movie?

Favourite old movie has to be The Great Escape. Favourite new movie is Casino Royale.

6. Favourite book or author?

I don't read for fun at home because I get too into it. When we're on the road I get into it with John Sanford.

7. What is your most treasured possession?

My house and everything in it.

8. What is your motto?

If it's worth doing, it's worth over-doing.

9. Favourite word?

Swell.

10. What is your most marked characteristic?

My rather large head and my intolerence of free jazz.

11. Which historical or fictional figure do you most identify with?

Red Skelton. He wrote a song every day and had a great sense of humour.

12. What is your favourite indulgence?

I can't say. No really, I can't say.

13.If you could have personally witnessed any one event in history what would you like it to have been?

The end of the Ice Age - to see if the Liberals were blaming us for that too.

14. If you could possess one supernatural ability what would it be?

I always wanted to fly, but selective, adjustable x-ray vision would be kinda cool.

15. If you were to cast any actor, living or dead, to play you in a film, who would you select?

I think someone living would be a better choice. Let's go with Brad Pitt - because of Angelina.

16. What would the title of your autobiography be?

Tape's Rolling

17. If you could eat as much as you want of any one food with absolutely no ill effect, what food would you choose?

Ice cream. MMMMM.

18. Favourite season?

Spring. The days just get better and better. I like the whole renewal thing.

19. If you could have a jam session with any three musicians in history who would you choose?

Ron Henry on vocals and sax, Gerry Sampson on drums, Floyd Bell on vocals and guitar, and me on bass.

20. If you were to have a family crest what symbols would it bear?

A record button, two ears and a microphone.

21. What television show, past or present, best represents your life?

The Twilight Zone. No reason.

22. If you could be on the cover of any magazine, which one would it be and what would the headline be?

Billboard. Producer of the Year. Again!!

23. What is your best childhood memory?

Swimming with my brother in the middle of the St. Lawrence River.

24. Pet peeve?

Don't get me started.

25. If you were to fill a time capsule the size of a shoe box, to be opened hundreds of years from now, what would you put inside it to represent your life?

A Shure SM57 microphone, a guitar pick, a camera, my worn-out health card and my old Sennheiser headphones.
